Machel Montano

Machel Montano (born 24 November 1974, Trinidad and Tobago) is a soca singer, record producer and songwriter based in the Caribbean. He is the frontman of the popular soca band Xtatik, and is noted for his high energy, fast-paced, and often unpredictable on-stage performances. In 1987 he was the youngest finalist to ever win the Caribbean Song Festival. He now stands as one of the most well-known soca acts in the world and has tried in many ways to bring soca into the mainstream by promoting it, using his leverage as an artist able to sell-out shows.

David Rudder

David Rudder is one of the top calypsonians of all time. In 1977, he joined Charlie’s Roots, one of the top bands in Trinidad and Tobago. In 1986 he burst into prominence with his album The Hammer which produced two big hits, The Hammer (a tribute to the late pannist Rudolph Charles) and Bahia Girl. In 1988 Rudder released his best album to date, Haiti, “Rally ‘Round the West Indies,” became the anthem of West Indies cricket.

Destra Garcia

Destra Garcia (born November 10, 1975 in Laventille, Trinidad and Tobago) is a Soca singer and songwriter based in Trinidad and Tobago. Destra is noted for her high energy performances, harmonious vocal skill and eccentric fashion style. Destra won the Road March title in 2003 at the Labour Day Carnival in Brooklyn[citation needed], and also placed second in the Trinidad and Tobago Soca Monarch competition in that same year.

Denise Belfon

Denise “Saucy Wow” Belfon (born November 23, 1968, in ST.Lucia is a Soca, Contemporary R&B, and Gospel singer, songwriter, and dancer. She is commonly known by Caribbean locals as the “Soca-Dancehall Queen” due to her high energy, complex, exotic, and highly controversial on-stage performances in addition to her powerful, husky, and sultry vocals and her high stamina. Her career, although very well-established, exploded after the release of her 2003 smash single, “Saucy Baby,” which is considered to be her signature song by many.

Faye Ann Lyons

Fay Ann is a three-time Trinidad and Tobago Carnival Road March champion (2003, 2008, 2009) and the 2009 International Soca Monarch and International Groovy Soca Monarch champion. She created history again when she won the International Soca Monarch for the first time in 2009, as the first female to win the Power category, and the first individual to win the Power, Groovy and People’s Choice awards on Fantastic Friday (aka Carnival Friday) at the competition which is held annually in Trinidad.

    machelThe Soul Train Music Awards for 2011, have nominated both reigning Road March and Soca Monarch, Machel Montano, and Groovy Soca Monarch Kes Dieffenthaller of Kes the Band for the prestigious award in the category of Best Caribbean Performance with their hit singles, “Bend Over” and “Wotless”.
