At the 3rd meeting of the Regional Committee on Collective Management of Copyright and Related Rights for the Caribbean recently held in Nassau Bahamas (May 24 - 26) Trinidad and Tobago was selected as the site for the Regional Centre. It was also decided that initially, the Centre would be housed at the offices of COTT.
The Regional Centre which is to be named "Caribbean Copyright Link" (CCL) will:
- handle data management services to its clients which would comprise right holders of both copyright and related rights;
- provide technical assistance for the setting up of information processing operations on site;
- maintain central databases;
- research unidentified works and performances in cooperation with national societies;
- monitor and maintain data standards for all incoming data.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2001 and upon completion Caribbean national societies who subscribe to CCL will no longer be dependent on the Performing Rights Society, PRS, or other foreign societies for royalty distribution.
