COTT Walks 100 miles to Carnival in support of the Music Industry

Support the Music Industry!

That’s the main tagline of the members and staff of the Copyright Music Organisation of Trinidad and Tobago (COTT) as it launched the first leg of its Fitness Challenge - a walk of 100 miles to Carnival 2012!

This initiative is aimed at building awareness of COTT’s role as a major stakeholder in the music industry, as well as promoting a healthy lifestyle within the Organisation - all while having fun. Equipped with their “Support the Music Industry” t-shirts, the first leg of the walk began at COTT’s offices on 139-141 Abercromby Street on Monday 30th January, 2012 and then proceeded to the Queen’s Park Savannah with some of COTT’s Members as well as COTT Staff and Board Members.

COTT’s CEO, Ms. Patt Christopher expressed her pleasure at embarking on the Organisation’s “Support the Music Industry” initiative with its health and fitness challenge, a walk of 100 miles to Carnival Sunday 2012. She stated that it was important for COTT to show that it understood its role as a leader in the music industry, stressing that COTT made a significant contribution in the industry. She added that when the Organisation worked with its Members, whether in music or in initiatives such as this one – “together we are stronger”. Christopher thanked the Fitness Centre Gym for partnering with COTT in this initiative, and for helping to raise the awareness and importance of wellness.

Since 1984 COTT was incorporated as a non-profit / non-governmental organisation. Its’ main function is to manage and license collectively on behalf of music creators and their publishers, the public performance, reproduction and internet rights of the copyrighted music, pursuant to the Copyright Act 1997 of Trinidad and Tobago. In this capacity, COTT collects fees from users of copyright music and distributes the money as royalties to the writers and publishers who have vested in this Organisation, their ownership of the copyright.
