What's on the beat for COTT members, COTT licensees and those interested in the local music industry.
The Copyright Music Organisation of Trinidad and Tobago (COTT) wishes to advise members of the public, in particular promoters of live events, that it is in no way affiliated with any other locally registered Copyright or Related Rights Organisation.
As such, payment of Copyright or Related Rights Licence Fees in the form of a “Blanket Licence” , “Event Licence” or any other licence to a Copyright or Related Rights Collection Society other than COTT, does not exempt you from obtaining the requisite licence from COTT for works registered in our repertoire.
You are required by law, to obtain a Copyright Licence from the owners of the music. In the case of COTT this refers to approximately 98% of all local repertoire and 100% of foreign repertoire.
The fine for infringement of the Copyright Act of Trinidad and Tobago (1997) is $250,000 or ten years imprisonment.
