Attorney-at-Law and Communications Specialist, Patt Christopher, has been appointed by the Board of Directors of the Copyright Music Organisation of Trinidad and Tobago (COTT) to serve as the organisation’s Chief Executive Officer.
Incorporated in 1984, COTT’s membership includes close to three thousand songwriters, composers, lyricists and music publishers. It is the Organisation responsible for the collection of licence fees on behalf of its members through the collection of licence fees from the users of the works of its members –which range from calypso to chutney, pan, parang, gospel, rapso, Indian, African, pop, rock and jazz and music in TV programmes and jingles. COTT then distributes Royalties to its members.
Commenting on her appointment, Ms. Christopher, who has a diverse background in both the private and public sectors said that she was determined to ensure that COTT remained ä resourceful and dynamic player in the delivery of an efficient and transparent service for the collective management of music rights, thus contributing to the economic benefit of its members and affiliates.
Ms. Christopher holds a Bachelor of Law (LL.B (Hons.) from the University of London and a Legal Education Certificate (LEC) from the Sir Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad. She is also certified from the Cranfield University School of Management, the University of Boston College of Communication, and the University of Windsor in areas spanning General Management, Communications and Alternative Dispute Resolution, and has completed various business related programmes including Project Management, Finance, Industrial Relations, Behavioural skills, Strategic Marketing Management and Information Technology. Christopher is presently pursuing her MBA.
Christopher who describes herself as ‘’results-driven’’, has over 15 years of strategic leadership experience, during which she successfully created and led various multi-skilled teams throughout her career. She has also held Executive level positions in non-profit organisations.
