Music piracy is copying, importing, distributing or selling the music of others when the creators or other right owners without the authorization or licence of the right owners. In Trinidad & Tobago it typically takes the form of CDs being sold in carts with speakers and an amplifier on roadsides and in markets. One of the reasons that pirated CDs are cheaper than originals is that pirates do not pay the right owners for the use of their music. In the case of CD compilations, anyone can obtain a license to make them, provided the right owners agrees and a mechanical licence is obtained from COTT. Do not buy pirated copies buy originals, if you are not sure, call COTT on (868) 624-COTT (2688). Report all types of piracy. See Contact Us or send us a Piracy Report Form.
